Zendesk connection

Learn how to connect your Zendesk account.


Overview

To perform Zendesk actions in your workflows, you are required to connect your Zendesk account with Actioner. Additionally, you can use your Zendesk connection when designing workflows that seamlessly integrate Zendesk actions.

Once you connect your Zendesk account, it will be listed on My connections page.

When you install an app from directory

When you install Conversational ticketing with Zendesk from app directory, you'll be prompted to connect your Zendesk account on setup screen.

Click Connect near the Zendesk connection to complete OAuth authentication.

Selecting your Zendesk connection

If you already have a Zendesk connection, your connection will be automatically set. However, if you have multiple Zendesk connections, you'll be required to select the one you want to use in this app.

When you are invited to an app

If you are invited to an app that contains Zendesk actions, such as conversational ticketing with Zendesk, you can connect your Zendesk account on Home tab of the app you're invited.

Click Connect near the Zendesk connection to complete OAuth authentication.

If you already have a Zendesk connection, your connection will be automatically set. However, if you have multiple Zendesk connections, you'll be required to select the one you want to use in this app.

When you add a Zendesk action to a workflow

When you add a Zendesk action into your workflow and if you do not have a Zendesk connection, the option to connect your Zendesk will become available in workflow designer.

Click + Add connection to complete OAuth authentication.

If you already have a Zendesk connection but are looking to connect another Zendesk instance or a service account, you can add a new Zendesk connection on My connections page and complete your authentication.

When you are missing Zendesk connection to run a workflow in Slack

In Slack, when you try to run a workflow with a missing Zendesk connection, you'll be directed to a page where you can complete OAuth authentication.

Authenticating in Zendesk

Actioner connects with Zendesk through OAuth2, API key and Basic authentication options.

OAuth2 authentication with Zendesk

To authenticate in Zendesk with OAuth2,

  1. Click Connect near the Zendesk connection.

  2. Enter your Zendesk subdomain on the opening screen. The address of your help center is your Zendesk subdomain, such as mycompany in mycompany.zendesk.com.

  3. Once you enter your subdomain and click Connect, you'll be directed to authorize Actioner in a new tab.

  4. Make sure that you are signed in to your Zendesk account if you haven't already.

  5. Click Authorize Actioner to grant permission to Actioner. Upon successful authorization, you’ll be redirected back to Actioner.

API key authentication with Zendesk

If you prefer to connect Zendesk with an API token, you can add a new connection by selecting Zendesk (API) option. Please note that in this case, you need to use actions from your custom integration.

To authenticate in Zendesk with an API Token,

  1. Go to Admin Center in your Zendesk account and navigate to Zendesk API in the sidebar.

  2. On Settings tab, and make sure Token Access is enabled.

  3. Click Add API token button and copy the generated key.

  4. In Actioner, create a new Zendesk connection with API key. For this, click on your profile photo in the left bottom corner, navigate to Settings page and then switch to My connections tab.

  5. Add a new connection by selecting Zendesk (API) as the connection type.

  6. Enter your Zendesk subdomain on the opening screen. The address of your help center is your Zendesk subdomain, such as mycompany in mycompany.zendesk.com.

  7. Enter your Zendesk login email and the API token you copied from Zendesk Admin Center. Click Connect to complete your authentication.

Basic authentication with Zendesk

If you prefer to connect Zendesk with an API token, you can add a new connection with selecting Zendesk (Basic)) option. Please note that in this case, you need to use actions from your custom integration.

To connect with Zendesk API through basic authentication,

  1. Go to Admin Center in your Zendesk account and navigate to Zendesk API in the sidebar.

  2. On Settings tab, and make sure Password Access is enabled.

  3. In Actioner, create a new Zendesk connection with basic authentication. For this, click on your profile photo in the left bottom corner, navigate to Settings page and then switch to My connections tab.

  4. Add a new connection by selecting Zendesk (Basic) as the connection type.

  5. Enter your Zendesk subdomain on the opening screen. The address of your help center is your Zendesk subdomain, such as mycompany in mycompany.zendesk.com.

  6. Enter your Zendesk login email in Username field and your password. Click Connect to complete your authentication.

Managing your Zendesk connection

To see the list of your connections,

  1. Click on your profile photo at left bottom corner, and then navigate to Settings page.

  1. Switch to My connections tab. You'll see the list of your connections on this page.

  1. Click on a connection to
  • Reconnect with your credentials
  • Edit the name of your connection
  • Test your credentials
  • Delete your connection

Reconnecting

If your Zendesk subdomain or credentials change, you can reconnect Zendesk with Actioner on My connections page.

On the opening screen. enter your Zendesk subdomain and complete OAuth authentication.
