How to get started

Step 1. Install retrospective

Visit retrospective in app directory and click Install button at top right corner.

Step 2. Connect to Slack

After installing the app, you'll be prompted to connect your Slack workspace.

Complete Slack connection

If you have not connected your Slack workspace, you can click Connect near Slack connection.

You can also add your Slack workspace by navigating to Workspace settings page from left menu and then switching to Slack workspace tab.

If you do not see Workspace settings page, contact with your workspace admin.

Step 3. Invite your team

By default Everyone in your Actioner workspace is added to your app as Runner.

To grant app admin permission to a user, go to the Permissions tab of your app and add users or groups via + Add permission button. If you can't find the users you want to add, ensure they have been invited to your Actioner workspace.

How retrospective works

Creating a new retrospective session in Slack


  1. Call Actioner by typing /actioner in Slack and then select Create retrospective workflow.

  2. On the opening form, fill out below fields:

    • Name: Provide a name for the retrospective.
    • Template: Select the desired template like 4 Ls retrospective, Starfish, etc.
    • Custom estimation option: This field must be filled if custom template is selected in template.
    • Invitation channel: Choose the channel where you want to send invitations.
  3. Click Create to create the session.

  4. Actioner generates a dedicated channel for the retrospective session and sends invitations to the selected Slack channel.

When a new Retrospective session is initiated, Actioner generates a dedicated channel and sends a message to this channel that includes session-related actions.

How to contribute

Add note


  • Use this button to contribute your insights, observations, or suggestions during the retrospective session.
  • Upon clicking Add note, a form will appear. On the opening form, select the topic you want to add your insight to and type your note.
  • You can submit your note anonymously.

View your notes


  • Use this button to access and manage your personal notes and contributions.
  • In the opening form, you can see your revealed and unrevealed notes.
  • You can edit or delete your note by clicking on the three dots at the top corner of a note in the unrevealed list.

Reveal notes

Tip

Only session host can reveal notes and add action items.


  • Use this button to display the collective insights and observations shared by the entire team during the retrospective.
  • When clicking Reveal notes, a form opens up. By selecting the topic you want to reveal, the notes for the selected topic will be shared in the channel.
  • After revealing notes, you can mark duplicates and add action items on them.
    • Mark duplicate: Lets you identify and label notes that are similar or redundant within the retrospective. The duplicate note is sent as a thread reply to the related note.
    • Add action item: Lets you add action items related to the selected note. On the opening form, you can enter the status, description, assignees, and due date of the action item.

Tip

Only session host can edit or delete action items.


  • By clicking the Show action items button, you can view and manage the action items that have been assigned or identified during the retrospective.
  • To edit or delete an action item, click the three dots located near it.

End session

  • Use this button to conclude the session. The dedicated retrospective channel will be archived after 7 days.
