On-call handoff

Manage PagerDuty on-calls without leaving Slack.

How it works:

Actioner integrates PagerDuty and Slack seamlessly. Allowing you to manage on-call schedules directly from Slack.

You can see the list of your on-calls, and send handoff request to the Slack channel you prefer. Your teammates can take the on-call easily, or your manager can suggest someone to take the on-call quickly using quick action buttons in the request message.

  1. By calling the Actioner app in Slack with "/actioner" command or using shortcuts, run the “See my on-calls” action.
  2. In the prompted list, click three dots near the on-call schedule you’d like to request handoff.
  3. A form filled with the selected on-call details will appear, you’ll just need to choose the channel you want to share your request.
  4. When you run the request handoff workflow, Actioner will send a message to the channel you’ve selected. Slack message consists of the on-call details, and “Take on-call” and “Suggest someone” quick action buttons.
  5. One of your teammates can take your on-call quickly, or your manager can suggest a team member using smart action buttons.
  6. If you run “Suggest someone” workflow, it also sends a DM with the details of who has suggested, the details of on-call, and “Take on-call” & “Reject” quick action buttons.
  7. No matter which workflow is run related to the handoff request, Actioner sends updates as replies to the original message.

If the suggested team member runs “Take on-call” workflow, the original message will be updated, with the info that the request has already been answered to avoid miscommunication.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use this app with a different incident management tool other than PagerDuty?

This app is particularly designed for PagerDuty but you can easily adapt it to work with any other incident management tool with public APIs. Add a new connection for your tool, and update the actions and workflows accordingly.

We don't use Jira or Statuspage in our incident management process. Can I still use this app?

Yes! The workflows and actions designed for issue tracking or external communication are independent of the other actions and workflows. Your app will work even if they're not a part of your incident management process.

Can I use another issue tracking tool other than Jira?

Yes. Follow-up tasks can be created with any other tools with public APIs. Add a new connection for your ticketing tool, and update the Create follow-up issue action accordingly.

Our incident management process includes more tools. Can I also use them via Actioner?

You can use as many tools as you want with Actioner as long as they have public APIs. You can create new connections, actions, and workflows that send data from your own tools and combine them with the existing Incident management app.
