From Halp to Assist: Navigating Atlassian's Big Shift

Learn about Atlassian's shift from Halp to Assist, ending Zendesk and Jira Software support by June 2024, and how it impacts users & Explore alternatives.

If you're currently using Halp, also known as Atlassian Assist, a significant change is on the horizon. Halp will end support for Zendesk and Jira Software after its lifecycle concludes on June 4, 2024. Until this date, you can continue using Halp as usual, but post-transition, its conversational ticketing functionality will be exclusively available with Jira Service Management (JSM) Cloud plans. This shift is part of Atlassian's broader strategy to offer a more integrated and unified support experience across its platforms.

Halp's evolution into Atlassian Assist

Originally a conversational ticketing tool for Slack and Microsoft Teams, Halp has been transformed into Atlassian Assist following its acquisition by Atlassian. Halp aims to streamline workflows and enhance the responsiveness of support teams by enabling ticket creation, bidirectional syncing of comments, and more direct communication from Slack and MS Teams.

The impact on Jira Software and Zendesk users

Jira Software Users: Post-June 4, 2024, users must switch to JSM to retain access to advanced ticketing features. Until then, Jira Software can still be integrated with Slack via the Jira Cloud Slack app, albeit without the full capabilities previously offered by Assist.

Zendesk Users: Similarly, support for Zendesk will also be discontinued. This decision reflects Atlassian's intent to centralize its support services within its ecosystem, enhancing user experience and integration without relying on third-party platforms.

User reactions and strategic shifts

The transition has received a mixed response from the community. Some users are concerned about the potential complexities and the confusion that renaming and shifting functionalities might introduce. Zendesk and Jira Software users are advised to explore their options well before the deadline to adapt to these changes smoothly.
