Latest updates to the Poll App by Actioner

UI improvements everywhere

We pushed the Slack Block Kit's limits and improved the poll app's overall UI in every step possible.

Improved poll creation forms

In the previous version of the poll app, the Closing time and Starting time often caused confusion during poll scheduling. We've replaced these with two new ones:

• Voting period: Represents how long the poll will stay open for voting. It simplifies setting a poll's closing time by allowing you to choose from predetermined time periods, such as 3 hours, 2 weeks, or 1 month.
• Poll scheduling settings: Enables you to select the Scheduled poll option and easily input the starting date and time into the prompted fields.

Improved poll views

Polls created with Poll by Actioner were undoubtedly helpful and useful, but they tend to blend in with other Slack messages, making them hard to notice. To address this, we enhanced the poll messages by leveraging the Slack Block Kit more effectively, significantly improving readability. It's much easier to understand questions, options, poll settings, and voting periods. Please examine the before and after screenshots below to see the difference for yourself.

Recurring Slack polls

Recurring polls save time and ensure consistency by automating the polling process for regularly scheduled decisions. It helps maintain engagement by providing a predictable and reliable way for team members to contribute their input on a regular basis, leading to more informed decision-making and a more collaborative environment. It has been a long-awaited and requested feature for the Poll by Actioner. 

Now, you can fully leverage recurring polls for your repetitive poll needs.

How to create recurring polls in Slack

You can create a recurring poll anytime using the poll scheduling settings we introduced with this update. 

1. Type /poll-by-actioner and select Create a poll.
2. Navigate to the Poll scheduling settings and select Recurring poll option.
3. Input the starting date, starting time, and frequency. You can select from 4 different frequency options: Daily, Daily (weekdays only), Weekly, and Monthly.
4. Click Create poll.

Manage recurring polls in Slack

Managing your recurring polls is a breeze with Poll by Actioner, and you can do it without leaving Slack.

1. Type /poll-by-actioner command, select Search your recurring poll. 
2. When you click on that, you will see Channel and Status fields. With Channel field, you can filter recurring polls based on the channel they will send. You can also leave this field empty to search for all channels. You can search for active and non-active recurring polls with the Status field. Not-active polls mean they are paused but not deleted and can be reactivated anytime

3. In the prompted list, you will see summaries of the recurring polls you created. From this list, you can easily go to Check details of the poll, Delete the recurring poll, or Find instances of it.

4. For more detailed information about a recurring poll, go to Check details. In this view, you can find all the details related to the poll, such as questions, options, poll type, voting period, whether multiple responses are allowed or not, privacy settings, and recurring details.

Poll templates leveled up

Poll templates save time and ensure consistency by allowing you to reuse well-structured polls. They are particularly helpful for frequently asked questions or routine feedback processes, reducing the need to repeatedly set up polls from scratch. This streamlines the polling process and helps maintain a standard format for data collection, making it easier to analyze and compare results over time.

Improved poll template management

Poll templates are a powerful tool that enables you to save your common polls and create them easily without struggling to set poll questions, options, and settings each time. And with new updates, poll template management has never been easier. 

1. Type /poll-by-actioner, and select Search poll templates. 
2. You will see the Template type field. This field allows you to filter poll templates as custom or pre-built. 
3. After you select the template type, the Search field appears. This field includes a list of the poll templates for the selected Template type. 
4. When you select a template from the Search field, a summary of the poll template will appear. You can switch between different template polls and check the summary of the selected template. 
5. Once you find the desired template, you can click on Preview to go to the template.

More flexibility with Modifiable / Not-modifiable templates

We also improved poll template use cases with the new Modifiable / Not-modifiable template logic. This makes it easier for you to categorize and manage your templates.

• Modifiable Templates: If you want to create a poll template from a casual poll and want everyone to be able to update or delete this template, you can allow everyone to update and delete it. This is useful for collaborative environments where team members might need to change the poll as requirements evolve.
• Not-Modifiable Templates: Conversely, if you want to create a poll template from a more critically important poll and want all the control over this template, you can forbid others from updating it and allow only yourself to delete the template. This ensures that essential polls remain consistent and secure, preventing unauthorized modifications that could affect the integrity of the data collected.

Other Updates

Brand New App home

Our Slack Poll app now has a much more exciting app home that aims to improve your onboarding experience to the app or overall experience as a veteran Poll by Actioner user. In our new app home, you will find useful buttons that enable you to take action easily. For example, you can quickly go to the Actioner web client for your poll app with the new Go to Web button, or you can quickly create a poll using the Create poll button set, which includes all our poll types.

We also implemented Get started, Your polls, and Your response tabs to maximize the potential of a true app home page. These tabs are switchable, and you can switch between them depending on your needs.

Ability to send Responders list as DM

Viewing the full list of responders to an option is one of the non-negotiable requirements of a Poll app. In previous versions, the Poll app allowed you to view a list of responders for each option in Responders view, but there was a limit to the number that could be shown due to the limitations of Slack. This was causing problems when you had a high number of responders. Therefore, we introduced the ability to get responders as a DM. With that, you can see the responders as an option without worrying about the number of responders.

All you need to know - at your fingertips

You might sometimes feel uncertain while using apps like Poll by Actioner due to the various functions and things to remember. Now, with the /poll-by-actioner help command, you can get an ephemeral (visible only to you) message that can be used as a cheat sheet for the poll app. It contains poll-type details, explanations of advanced poll settings, and instructions on how to use AI while creating a poll. It also contains a link to the Poll by Actioner Help Center page if you need more comprehensive information about the app.
