Stop URL copy-pasting and start smart bookmarking in Slack

While browsing, bookmark and share important webpages with your team in Slack. Search, filter and view shared bookmarks whenever you want!

We are excited to announce that we have recently released our Bookmarks app and Browser extension. It’s the end of the era where you copy URLs while browsing the web, switch to Slack, and paste them to share with your coworkers.

From now on, you can share important web pages and resources in Slack without disturbing your browsing experience. In this blog I’ve explained the process of sharing, viewing, and managing bookmarks in Slack using the Actioner browser extension.

Whether you are new to Slack or looking to optimize your current usage, these steps will guide you through a user-friendly way to streamline your bookmarking process, ensuring that essential web pages are just a click away for you and your team.

How to share links in Slack while browsing the web:

Now, you can effortlessly streamline your browsing experience by eliminating the need for copy-pasting URLs.

Follow these simple steps to share bookmarks in Slack:

  1. Navigate to the webpage you wish to share on Slack.
  2. Open the Actioner browser extension.
  3. Decide on the Slack channel where you want to post your bookmark.
  4. The extension will auto-fill the page's title and description, but you can modify these to suit your needs.
  5. Optionally, add any personal comments in the Comment field.
  6. Review your inputs and select the desired channel for sharing.
  7. Checkmark the option Share new bookmarks on Slack and hit Save & Share.
Your bookmark will be instantly shared in Slack!

Bookmark web pages to later view on Slack:

The Bookmarks app allows you to bookmark webpages you like and view them later within Slack.

  1. When you’re present on the web page you want to bookmark, all you need to do is open the Actioner browser extension
  2. After that, check the option Save new bookmarks to app's database and hit Save & Share.
    That’s all.

How to view your bookmarks in Slack:

To view your bookmarks in Slack, follow these steps;

  1. Call Actioner in your Slack workspace
  2. Choose the List Bookmarks workflow option.
  3. To locate a specific bookmark, use the Search Keys field to enter keywords associated with the bookmark you seek.
  4. Alternatively, if you're looking for bookmarks shared by a particular colleague, select their name in the From Users field.
  5. Once you've set your search criteria, the bookmarks will be displayed chronologically, starting from the most recent.
  6. If you wish to remove any bookmark, click the three dots near it to delete it.

💡 Any bookmarks you share on a Slack channel will be posted to that channel as a message from the Actioner bot. These bookmarks are readily accessible within Slack in the specified channel, or you can quickly revisit them by following the steps outlined above.
